Staff Writer Coming into this year, there weren’t high expectations because the pool at Hubbard High School wasn’t available due to renovations. Therefore the swim team wouldn’t have a pool to practice in. So far, the boys swim team has met with the following schools: Kennedy, Juarez, Little Village and Gage Park. They met with Kennedy on Tuesday, December 4th, 2012. They competed in many races like the 200 yard freestyle, 200 yard individual medley, 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle, 100 yard back stroke and the 100 yard breaststroke. According to the Hubbard swimming team’s head coach Robyn Wells, Gustavo Orozco is one of the best swimmers on the team. He won 1st place in the 100 yard butterfly race and in the 200 yard individual medley. He was the only Hubbard swimmer to win a race in the meet against Kennedy High School. Their record this season is 2 of 3. The coaches were also happy to announce that there will be a water polo team for both boys and girls. Further information on the water polo team has yet to be announced.
