![]() By Alexandra Romo Staff Writer The members and coaches of this season’s Cross Country (CC) team are focused, motivated, and optimistic. They have been kept on their toes even with the lack of members on the team this year. “We have made so much progress this season. I expect many successes to come,” stated coach Dziedzic – coaching. Alongside with coach Skaczylo – about her expectations of the season. The team is very optimistic even though membership has decreased from the past season. “The reason is because there was a lack of recruitment and a new Boys Cross Country coach,” says veteran Ivan Almendariz, Div. 402. There are 19 members on the Girls CC team and 7 members on the Boys CC team which is distinctively different from last season – especially the lack of male members. “Most of the males on the varsity team last year were seniors, so they had graduated,” explains Jonatan Alcaide, Div. 512, for the lack of male members this season. Still, this won’t hold the teams back from doing their best. There were several drastic changes and challenges that the Hubbard CC team encountered this season. “The shift of coaches defi nitely made a difference. This year the team did not have the opportunity to train in the summer like previous years. The number of runners also decreased since many of the runners last year were seniors,” lists Girls CC captain Keila Magafas, Div. 401, regarding the comparisons of this season to last season. However, this season has had its accomplishments for the CC teams. The Girls CC varsity team won 1st Place at the 5th Annual Brooks meet. In the individual two-mile race, Janet Uribe, Div. 701, took 7th place; Francisco Reyes, Div. 607, received 4th place; Beatriz Flores, Div. 602, obtained 3rd place, and lastly, but certainly not least, the Boys CC captain Adrian Barrientos, Div. 507, won 1st place at the Brooks meet. Both the Girls CC varsity team and Adrian Barrientos took consecutive wins in the City Championships. The girls placed 14th overall in the city and Adrian placed 19th in the city. Without a doubt, this year’s Cross Country team has come across many adjustments, but still managed to stay motivated and dedicated. Coach Dziezic commented, “We are working hard to maintain this momentum!” on the teams achievements from early meets this season. Now we can only imagine what accomplishments the Hubbard Cross Country team will bring next season.

Morgan Park got the ball back with 2 minutes 43 seconds left in the 4th quarter. The defense was very emotional because they could feel how close they were to breaking the streak. The defense was able to get Morgan offense to a 4th and 2, On the play the defensive line was able get pressure on the quarterback to force him to throw a bad ball and turn the ball over to the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds rushed the field because they had finally broke the streak. Players and fans were crying.
