![]() By Charles Allen Staff Writer The Greyhounds won a conference victory against Morgan Park on October 23. Darion Henderson, Div. 406, said, “We haven’t beat Morgan Park in 6 years and I feel like if we win, it will be a huge weight off our back.” The Greyhounds haven’t won a conference since 2006! It was an amazing and emotional game for the players, coaches, cheerleaders, and fans. The game started slowly because of holding penalties, but the Greyhounds bounced back and scored 2 touchdowns: one by Darion Henderson on a 41 yard rush and Jacquelle Smith on a 15 yard rushing touchdown to lead 17 to 10 at the end of the second quarter. At the start of the third quarter, Morgan Park return the kick off for a touchdown and also scored a passing touchdown. The game was an up and down midway through the third quarter and Morgan Park gained the lead by 24 to 17. In the 4th quarter, the Greyhounds added another touchdown to go up 31 to 24. Morgan Park got the ball back with 2 minutes 43 seconds left in the 4th quarter. The defense was very emotional because they could feel how close they were to breaking the streak. The defense was able to get Morgan offense to a 4th and 2, On the play the defensive line was able get pressure on the quarterback to force him to throw a bad ball and turn the ball over to the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds rushed the field because they had finally broke the streak. Players and fans were crying. So the Greyhounds are 6-2 on the season, they also have an automatic spot in the state playoffs but first they will be playing Harlan for the first round of the city playoffs. It has been a great season and the Greyhounds are hoping to make it even better one by being the first Chicago Public School in history to win a state championship!
